Alternative Eyeshadow Primer’s You May Already Have at Home

Let me tell you that running out of essential beauty products is the worst. Whether your mascara dried up or you hit pan on bronzer, you probably don’t have time to run out and buy a new product — especially if you’re getting ready for a big date or work.

But what happens when your eyeshadow primer is suddenly all gone? Believe me no one wants cracked eyeshadow or creasy glitter on their lids! Well, little do you know, you already own a handful of these eyeshadow primer alternatives. #yourewelcome #LOL

Aloe Vera Gel
You might be saying “huh?” but trust me, this is a miracle worker in itself. This gel moisturizes your eyelid without adding oil, making it the perfect base for eyeshadow to stay on throughout the night. Once applied, let it sit for a minute before applying you’re shades.

Concealer
Grab that little bottle from your makeup bag and spring into action! Concealers are made to be long-lasting and a lightweight formula on your eyelids is always the best route when priming. Your eyeshadow will look picture perfect throughout the night.

 Highlighter
I’m not talking about the neon yellow variety! Grab your favorite highlighter and use it as a base. Not only will it keep the pigment on your lid, but it can also help brighten and even add some glow to your eyeshadow shade. It works great if you’re going for a bright-eyed look!

White Eyeliner Pencil
Grab this pencil you’ve had for ages, but never really found a use for — until now! Lightly fill in your eyelid and smooth across. Once your shadow is applied, it will stay on without creasing. Plus the shadow will be brighter than before!

Foundation and Powder
This trick isn’t a time-saving one, but it can really make a difference in your smokey eye routine. Apply liquid foundation and let it dry. Next, set with your favorite powder. Your eyelids will be primed to handle whatever you put on them and keep oil at bay.

Lip Gloss
I know what you’re thinking…lip gloss on your eyelids? It might sound gross but the stickiness of the gloss will actually help your shadows stay in place. It’ll add a bit of natural sheen to your lids, too!

How to Use the 50-30-20 Rule When Budgeting Your Finances

Knowing when to spend and when to save isn’t always easy. If you’re not sure where to start, the 50-30-20 rule is a pretty standard breakdown of your finances.

The 50-20-30 Rule helps you build a budget by using three spending categories:

  • 50% of your income should go to living expenses and essentials. This includes your rent, utilities, and things like groceries and transportation for work.
  • 20% of your income should go to financial goals, meaning your savings, investments, and debt-reduction payments (if you have debt, such as credit card payments).
  • 30% of your income should be used for flexible spending. This is everything you buy that you want but don’t necessarily need (like money spent on movies and travel).

Keep in mind that the percentages for essentials and flexible spending are the maximum you should spend. Falling under those guidelines can leave more money for other financial goals.

How to start a 50-20-30 budget

Figure out what’s currently happening with your finances. First, look at your pay stubs to determine exactly how much money you bring home each month. That’s your income and what you’ll base your 50-20-30 split on. (If you’re self-employed, be careful to track your earnings and understand your average income per month so you can budget accordingly.)

Next, track you’re spending. Yes, that means keeping up with every last cent, from the big stuff such as rent to the Starbucks coffee that you grab on the way to work. Then divide your spending into one of the three categories: essentials, financial goals, and flexible spending. From here, adjust your spending to ensure you’re falling into the 50-20-30 parameters. If you’re overspending on stuff you want but don’t need, it’s time to cut back to save more.

Adjust anytime you need to
Good news: the 50-30-20 rule is a guideline that you can adjust as you go. For example, you might consider switching out the percentages if you’re stuck with expensive rent or a ton of payments. “The 50-30-20 rule can be altered if you are in extreme debt, such as owing more than $50,000.” Well If this is you, it’s time to try to putting a higher percentage toward payments and a smaller percentage toward your wants for a while.” Keep in mind it is temporary goals to gain financial freedom.

Set a savings goal and stick to it
Ready to follow the 50-30-20 rule and regularly put a set percentage of your paycheck into savings? Jennifer says, automating it can be a huge help. “Your only job is to log into your bank account, pick a date and amount to regularly transfer, and sit back and relax. Saving won’t have to be something you think about when it happens automatically.”

Now Let’s Say 50/30/20 Is Not for Me

Let’s remember: If you’re making $900 a month and carrying student loan debt(s).

Spending 50% of your income ($450) on rent and food just isn’t possible. And the suggestion to pay 30% of your paycheck on personal expenses was crazy! That would have keep you in debt longer. Worse, it would encourage you to keep the already lousy money habits.

So, if your debt and low income are negatively impacting every area of your life. Then what you need are financial tools to get you out of the hole you’re in, and stop permitting yourself to continue treating yourself and stop living outside your means.

You don’t want to set up a budget like the 50/30/20 rule that drags the debt out. You want to chuck the debt entirely and focus on your future energy on growing your wealth. So what you need is a drastic change to eliminate this debt ASAP.

The Debt Avalanche Method

Your goal will be twofold. You will need to cut your spending and increase your income. After all, there’s only so much budgeting you can do on $900 a month. It may work better in the end for you to choose the debt avalanche method. This method advises you to pay off high-interest debts first to pay down your remaining debt worth of loans.

So to do this, you will ruthlessly need to cut your budget to free up funds. Try to eliminated all eating and drinking out and stop buying meat at the grocery store. Try hosting a clothing swap instead of buying new clothes. Also, try to be very simple with holidays and birthday’s with friends and family a card is just fine.

Remember you can always ask for a raise at your job, and try to pick up a part-time job. A side hustle is my religion. Between 2016 and 2018 I worked as a customer service representative from home, cleaned office/homes.

Compound Interest

Another great way to get ahead which in what I now see as a stroke of brilliance, you can also open up a Roth IRA account. If you put in $500, which can be a huge chunk of money for some. Yes, you will still be in debt, but you can learn about how to make money work for you in the long term. You will learn that investing is the key to building wealth. As much as you need to pay down your debt, you will also need to start having your money earn money. Investing favors the young, and you will need to get going.

In the end, your budget breakdown can be 70% toward debt payoff and 30% toward bare-minimum living expenses. It is extreme, but it will produce extreme results for example:

  • If in 2018 you make $15,000 total. That same year you also pay off $2,000 worth of debt.
  • By June 2019, you paid off all your student loan debt/credit card debit.
  • Between 2018 and 2019, you doubled your income.

Becoming financially literate can change your life trajectory. If you could pay off $25,000 worth of debt without ever making more than $30,000 a year, what couldn’t you do?

You could start investing. You could start a business. Money is just a language, and you can learn it at your own pace, you can start beginning to speak it.

You can invest $5,500 (the maximum amount allowed) into a IRA. A year last you did the same thing, and that’s the plan again for that year. Your finances will invigorate you, instead of making you anxious. You can be excited to manage and grow your wealth consciously, but this would never have been possible if you don’t tackle your debt as aggressively.

Pineapple Smoothie Bowls

The best part about smoothie bowls is you can choose your favorite ingredients and whatever you’re in the mood for that day. And they’re so creamy ~ like a bowl of ice cream! The trick to smoothie bowls is that you want the consistency to be a little thicker than a smoothie. We use frozen bananas as our base to get that amazing, creamy texture.

Smoothie:

Unsweetened almond milk

Coconut water

1/2 frozen banana ~ They’re the trick to a thick, creamy base. We chop and freeze bananas on Sundays!

Frozen strawberries

Frozen peaches

Frozen mango

Pineapple

Spinach or kale

1 scoop coconut Tone It Up Protein. We also love chocolate and vanilla, too!

Toppings:

1 Tbsp. Unsweetened coconut shavings

2 tsp. Chia seeds

Fave fruits ~ we did raspberries and blueberries

Mardi Gras

This video is a DIY on how to make a Mardi Gras King cake, Southern pralines, New Orleans style Beignet’s. Mardi Gras in french means (Fat Tuesday). Being that I grew up in New Orleans Louisiana it was always something fun that we did for the whole month of February, the last week of the month there is a parade everyday. The teacher would bring the first king cake in and who ever got the plastic baby inside would have to bring the next one in and so on….We would have a around the block parade dressed up and throwing beads and doulonns.

Please give it a big thumbs up and please don’t forget to subscribe to my channel.

Blueberry Scones

How to make blueberry scones

Recipe adapted from Cooking Light:

1/2 cup 2% reduced fat milk

1/4 cup sugar (Monk Fruit)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

2 cups all-purpose flour (about 9 ounces)

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons chilled butter, cut into small pieces

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

To brush over scones:

1 large egg white, lightly beaten

2 tablespoons sugar ( I used turbinado sugar-natural brown sugar)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk. Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups, level with a knife. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl, stirring with a whisk. Cut butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. I usually start out using a pastry cutter then end up using my hands to combine the butter with the flour mixture. Add milk mixture, stirring until moist. Warning: The dough will be really sticky especially if you’re using fresh blueberries that have just been rinsed. That little bit of extra water on the blueberries adds to the stickiness.

Homemade Apple Pie

Apple Pie

7-8 small granny smith apples, peeled, sliced, and cored
1 stick butter
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar (monk Fruit)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 heaping tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cardonmon
lemon juice from 1 lemon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
1). Place the peeled, cored, and sliced apples in a large bowl. Set aside.

2). Preheat oven to 425F.

3). In a medium sauce pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the 3 tbsp of flour and mix well, forming a paste. Add the water, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla and mix well. Bring to a boil for 1 minute, then reduce heat to a simmer for an additional minute.

4). Remove from heat and reserve about 1/3 cup of filling for pie crust. Add remaining filling to apples. Toss well.

5). Pour apples into prepared pie crust, mounding slightly. Top with second pie crust (lattice design, etc). Brush the remaining 1/3 cup caramel filling over the crust.

6). Cover the pie loosely with aluminum foil. I lightly spray the foil so it does not stick to the pie. Place the pie on top of a cookie sheet (to catch any drips) and bake at 425F for 10-12 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350F and bake for another 50 minutes (remove the foil the last 10 minutes to let the crust brown), or until done. The pie is done when the crust is golden-brown and the apples are soft when pierced with a fork.

7). Allow the pie to cool before serving. Enjoy!
