6 Beauty Products I use for My morning Routine

Kitao Matcha + Chia Cleanser $25

Truth be told, I don’t always wash my face in the morning. Sometimes I wake up I find that my skin is perfectly neutral — not too oily, not too dry —and still clean from the previous evening’s diligent double cleanse. I also use silk pillowcases from Amazon, so I can be sure that my skin doesn’t absorb any gross bacteria overnight. In the summer, however, when I sweat in the night, a morning wash is occasionally necessary. And no one gets the job done like this Kitao Matcha + Chia Cleanser (I don’t use it in the evening because it’s not the best at getting makeup off). But in the morning, it instantly washes off all that gross sweat and grime, and is also insanely hydrating, soothing, and gentle on my skin.

Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner $12

Yes, I use this incredible, perfect toner again in the morning as well. I like using this in the morning, as well, because it prepares my skin well for the rest of my routine.

Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence $21

Another repeat from the evening. I use this plumping, brightening, wound-healing essence twice a day because my skin responds so well to the ingredients that it’s really a the-more-the-better situation. It has stolen my heart.

Timeless Skin Care 30% Vitamin C $18

I am a firm believer that almost every person — barring those who are allergic or sensitive to vitamin C— could benefit from incorporating a good vitamin C serum into their routine. It’s a brightening wonder ingredient that also works to boost collagen. I truly haven’t found anything better. It’s also, as you may know, one of my favorite dupes for the Drunk Elephant Vita C (which I love because it has a mega-high concentration of vitamin C, but is still gentle on the skin). This Timeless version has a whopping 20 percent of vitamin C, so you will really start to see a difference in the radiance and luminosity of your skin within just a few weeks of regular use. I squeeze about three to four drops of this stuff into my palm and press it all over my skin, focusing on areas where I suffer from dark marks.

Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun SPF $11

In case you guys have somehow missed the millions of times I’ve raved about this product: this centella asitica and hyaluronic acid–infused, soothing, moisturizing sunscreen really is the best I’ve ever used. It’s so hydrating that in the hot, humid summer I actually use this SPF as my daytime moisturizer. It’s perfect.

Solid & Striped All-Over Sunscreen $28

Then I cover the rest of my body in SPF. Generally I use my Everyday from Supergoop!, but recently I’ve really been loving this sunscreen from Solid and Striped. It’s lightweight, fast-absorbing, and doesn’t leave a white cast. I lather my body in it before stepping out into the scary 90-degree summer heat.

Did You Know? There are 6 Ways to Recycle Old Beauty Products

Going green doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your favorite beauty products. In fact, there are more ways to reduce your carbon footprint than ever before as brands are now offering their own recycling programs, opting for plastic-free packaging, and more.

So, I’ve done some research and here are six brands that will help you be more conscious of the environment.

lilah b.
Before you toss old makeup in the trash, turn to makeup brand lilah b. to help you sustainably declutter your beauty cabinet. All you have to do is email declutter@lilahbeauty.com for a prepaid return shipping label, and lilah b. will take care of the rest. Easy peasy, right?

Le Labo
What’s more eco-friendly than recycling a product? Reusing it. Iconic fragrance house Le Labo offers an in-house refill service where you can bring in your empty bottles and get a refill for 20% off the original price.

Did you know that face wash, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are the most commonly used plastic beauty products? While you can recycle your empty plastic bottles with other household plastic items, we recommend taking advantage of Kiehl’s recycling program. For every empty container you bring in, you receive one stamp. Collect 10 stamps and you can exchange it for a travel-size product.

Nail polish bottles are one of the hardest things to properly recycle because of its complex formulas. Thanks to Côte, you simply have to bring in your old bottles to any Côte shop and you’ll receive 10% off your next purchase.

The hair care brand teamed up with recycling service provider g2 revolution to make recycling Aveda products easier for its customers. Just stop by one of Aveda’s stores and Aveda will ensure everything is properly recycled, reused, or burned for energy recovery.

Garnier x TerraCycle
You can send old skin, hair, and cosmetic packaging to TerraCycle at no cost. In return, you’ll receive TerraCycle points, which can be redeemed for a variety of charitable gifts, product bundles, or a payment of one cent per point to a nonprofit organization or school of your choice.

These Are My 8 Favorite Tatcha Products

If you’ve watched my instagram stories, you probably know that I hold the Tatcha skin-care line dear to my heart. During some of my most brutal skin phases, Tatcha products have single-handedly saved my complexion from bad breakouts, dullness, and dryness. What I love about Tatcha is that while the products are incredibly effective, they’re equally gentle — you get results without harsh chemicals or skin irritation.

Of course, there’s a downside: Tatcha’s goods can be a bit on the pricey side. Their Indigo Cream may have made my dry skin, supple and soft last winter, but paying $85 to re-up became unsustainable. And while the Silk Primer rid me of my fear of primers (they usually make me break out and this one decidedly did not), 0.7 ounces of it will cost you a shocking $52. Are you upset? Remember a little goes a long way. Are you ready for some good news? Here it is: Tatcha products are sold on Poshmark brand new, you can bargain with the seller. If you’re overwhelmed or curious where to start, I’m here to help. Here’s a list of my favorite Tatcha products, all of which are so good, they could each be a holy grail of mine and be found on the site. Unless, of course you want to purchase directly from the website.

Tatcha Indigo Recovery Cream

Tatcha Indigo Recovery Cream $85.00

This is one of the best moisturizers I have ever used. It’s very rich, but it absorbs into the skin very quickly so it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy or sticky. The product’s blend of oatmeal and Japanese indigo is calming and reparative, and has helped me calm redness from sun exposure. For anyone with dry, acne prone skin, this is a must-try.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist $48

When it comes to face mists, this one is the one to try. On rushed, no makeup mornings, I sometimes use this as the only step in my routine: A few spritzes on clean skin provides nourishment and moisture, and makes my face look super-bright and dewy. On full-on glam makeup days, I use this before applying my makeup and as my final, makeup-setting step. It makes everything melt into my skin and gives a perfect, flawless finish.

Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer $44

I wrote a full-length review of this product, so if you want the nitty-gritty, read it. But very long story short, this is one of the only primers I’m willing to use. Not only does this never, ever make me breakout, it also keeps my makeup looking frighteningly fresh and flawless — like I’ve just applied it — all day long.

Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Revitalizing Eye Mask

Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Revitalizing Eye Mask $12

These ultra gentle but effective masks are perfect for anyone who wants to treat their under eyes, but happens to have sensitive under-eye skin. They have green tea, rice-bran oil, and red algae, all of which work to hydrate and brighten the skin around your eyes, and make you look more well rested and alert. They’re also great for prepping your under eyes for makeup — concealer glides on after using these guys. I like keeping them in my little beauty fridge; the cold tends to depuff my (famously serial-killer-esque) under eyes.

Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen

Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen $65

If you’re looking for a great, everyday sunscreen this one is definitely worth buying. It absorbs super quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave a white cast. Plus, after you apply, makeup glides on super easily on top of it. It also has a slight matte-ifying effect on the skin, so it won’t leave you looking greasy — which I think we all can agree is unique for an SPF.

Tatcha Camellia Goldspun Lip Balm

Tatcha Camellia Goldspun Lip Balm $30

This lip balm is not only the perfect gift (it has pretty gold flakes in it), it’s also really effective. Apparently Japanese female free-divers have used camellia oil (the main product in this balm) for thousands of years to protect their skin and hair from the salty ocean water. I can see why: this super-thick and creamy lip balm does a truly incredible job at soothing and healing chapped lips. It is probably my second favorite chapstick of all time, right after my beloved Bite Agave Lip Mask.

Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, Travel Size

Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil $48

While we’re talking camellia, I’m completely obsessed with this oil. It is a 2-in-1 makeup remover and cleanser of Camellia Oil gently melts away impurities, even waterproof makeup, leaving behind pure, silky soft skin. It doesn’t leave your skin oily and heavy. I like to use it as a cleanser and moisturizer at night.

Tatcha Rice Polish: Gentle

Tatcha Rice Polish: Gentle $65

This is a physical — not a chemical — exfoliant. Though it is technically a scrub, it is incredibly gentle — it contains rice bran and papa enzymes and transforms into a foam when you add water to it. Tatcha’s motto is, essentially, “doing small things for your skin every day will give you the best results” (instead of using super-intense chemical exfoliants, in other words). This product the definition of that ethos: It’ll never make your skin red and dry, and will make your skin noticeably smoother within just one use.

According to Derms, Here are 7 Tips to Deal With Sun Damage

Although a day spent at the beach may be filled with lots of fun, there’s no denying that exposure to the sun can cause unwanted skin damage, especially if you forget to reapply SPF throughout the day. Both intense intermittent sun exposure (think family holidays in the summer when you were younger) and chronic sun exposure produce changes in the skin that causes sun damage.

Remember both forms of sun exposure can lead to photoaging, which forms premature signs of aging including wrinkles and sunspots. In fact, researchers at Yale have shown that DNA damage continues for hours after UV exposure.

But you should also know that there are easy ways to help your skin bounce back after a day out in the sun. I asked my dermatologists to share her best aftercare tips for sunburns, wrinkles, and sunspots.

Cool your skin and treat the initial discomfort
Make sure you help your skin cool down with cold showers, cold cloth compresses, and cool aloe vera-based skin gels. If you notice a heightened inflammation in the sun-exposed regions of your skin, an anti-inflammatory may also help.

To help cool down inflamed skin, she recommend storing a fast-acting cooling gel, such as the After Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe for Face and Body, in the fridge to provide immediate comfort to irritated, sunburnt skin.

Hydrate and moisturize
“Always remember to consume lots of water after sun exposure”. Sunburns tend to dry us out and steam the moisture out of our bodies, making it crucial to drink enough fluids throughout the day.

Invest in retinol products
Preventing sun damage is far more effective than erasing it. Topical retinoid treatments can help fight the appearance of fine lines and decrease pigmentation. If you are looking for a retinol that can stand up against sun damage, we suggest the Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Bright & Plump Moisturizer because it uses a stabilized retinoid blend to promote clearer-looking skin.

Try chemical peels
Chemical peels can help to remove scaly, sun-damaged patches and even out skin tone. Gentle peels will leave skin with a two-day to three-day glow while stronger ones will leave you pink or flaking for up to a week.

If you are eager to try a gentle peel at home, try the Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel. It won’t leave your skin inflamed or irritated as it instantly exfoliates and brightens for enhanced skin radiance, and has brightening results comparable to a professional peel. Great for all skin types, it features an immediate tingling sensation after application and cooling affect after removal.

Look for skin-lightening agents
The ingredients in topical masks and night creams that promise to help even out pigmentation patches work by peeling the skin, blocking the enzymes involved in pigment production, and breaking up the actual pigment. Look for ingredients like hydroquinone, kojic acid, azelaic acid, licorice root, and vitamin C.To bring the power of vitamin C to your skin-care regimen, be sure to tuck the Drunk Elephant C-Firm Vitamin C Day Serum in your beauty cabinet. It’s packed with powerful antioxidants, essential nutrients, and fruit enzymes.

Consider microneedling
Microneedling (with PRP) is a less expensive way to create acute tissue damage to ultimately trigger new collagen production. If you don’t have time for an in-office treatment, let the Ora Face Microneedle Dermal Roller tool treat your skin to great benefits at home – it triggers the skin’s regeneration process in just 60 seconds.

Don’t skip out on sunscreen
Always use a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. The biggest sunscreen mistakes are failing to reapply sunblock and not using enough sunscreen on the skin.

If you’re looking for a water and sweat-resistant product that shields both your skin and your hair, be sure to pick up the Clarins Sunscreen Care Oil Spray, which contains the necessary SPF 30.

Alternative Eyeshadow Primer’s You May Already Have at Home

Let me tell you that running out of essential beauty products is the worst. Whether your mascara dried up or you hit pan on bronzer, you probably don’t have time to run out and buy a new product — especially if you’re getting ready for a big date or work.

But what happens when your eyeshadow primer is suddenly all gone? Believe me no one wants cracked eyeshadow or creasy glitter on their lids! Well, little do you know, you already own a handful of these eyeshadow primer alternatives. #yourewelcome #LOL

Aloe Vera Gel
You might be saying “huh?” but trust me, this is a miracle worker in itself. This gel moisturizes your eyelid without adding oil, making it the perfect base for eyeshadow to stay on throughout the night. Once applied, let it sit for a minute before applying you’re shades.

Grab that little bottle from your makeup bag and spring into action! Concealers are made to be long-lasting and a lightweight formula on your eyelids is always the best route when priming. Your eyeshadow will look picture perfect throughout the night.

I’m not talking about the neon yellow variety! Grab your favorite highlighter and use it as a base. Not only will it keep the pigment on your lid, but it can also help brighten and even add some glow to your eyeshadow shade. It works great if you’re going for a bright-eyed look!

White Eyeliner Pencil
Grab this pencil you’ve had for ages, but never really found a use for — until now! Lightly fill in your eyelid and smooth across. Once your shadow is applied, it will stay on without creasing. Plus the shadow will be brighter than before!

Foundation and Powder
This trick isn’t a time-saving one, but it can really make a difference in your smokey eye routine. Apply liquid foundation and let it dry. Next, set with your favorite powder. Your eyelids will be primed to handle whatever you put on them and keep oil at bay.

Lip Gloss
I know what you’re thinking…lip gloss on your eyelids? It might sound gross but the stickiness of the gloss will actually help your shadows stay in place. It’ll add a bit of natural sheen to your lids, too!

6 Tips If You Are Applying Your Makeup The Wrong Way

Whether you started using your first makeup brush playing dress-up as a little girl in preschool or you’re newer to the whole makeup thing, we’ve all got our good and bad beauty habits – some we could probably live without.

Beauty influencer and makeup artist Jennifer Sauri is sharing some of the most common makeup mistakes we may do while applying our makeup I will list them down below.

Applying products right after skin care
For those with oily or combination skin, it’s important to let your skin care products sink in before applying other products like foundation. If your skin is too moist, the makeup will just slide off. Wait about five to 10 minutes, and if your foundation is wet, you may also want to wait before applying concealer.

Using a swirling motion to apply foundation
Rubbing in your foundation like you would a moisturizer just moves it around your face. Instead, tap the foundation into your skin with your finger. I like to use a dry beauty blender, I feel it doesn’t push the product around and it’ll look more natural!

Using cream products without powder for long wear
If you’re using cream makeup and want it to last, layer it with powder. Powder is your superpower! But I will add mature women need a little powder under the eye, just a tiny bit will go a long way. If you apply too much it will dry and crack causing to appear cakey. Your as I like to call them mature lines will appear more in deep. Moisture is the key.

Using mists strictly to hydrate your face
When the layer of powder is giving you a cakey look, grab a mist. It’ll help break up the powder, leaving it smooth.

Applying blush below the apples of the cheeks
For a natural sun-kissed look, tap the blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend upward. It’ll give you the most naturally flushed look.

Adding a bold lip at the end
Chances are, donning a lipstick or stain is your last step. If you’re going for a red (or any bold) lip, apply it before your blush and eyeshadow to avoid overdoing your makeup. I always recommend you have to decide what kind of event it is if you want a natural eye look then have a bold lip, and if you want a more bold eye look then you can have a nude or soft lip.
