Miracles in a bottle.

Figuring out the best way to battle the signs of aging can be a seriously expensive and time-consuming task. To demystify the anti-aging process, I Tested and tried these anti-aging serums.

My Top Picks

I do agree with all researchers that antioxidants, retinols, and hyaluronic acid are some of the key ingredients to look for when selecting an anti-aging serum. It’s important to look for products that don’t just make claims about reducing the appearance of fine lines. You want products that contain ingredients that really help support skin health. Healthy skin will look and behave like younger skin.

Selection of anti-aging serums is key, but there are also some other factors that can make these products even more effective to help correct lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and uneven texture. I have learned that skincare products should be layered thinnest to thickest.

A good rule of thumb is to start with the lightest product and finish with the thickest, allowing each layer to be fully absorbed by the skin. A serum placed on top of a moisturizer will not allow the serum to be fully absorbed since the smaller molecules cannot penetrate the larger ones.

I also encourages the use of at-home devices like microneedling rollers and toning devices to allow maximum absorption of your anti-aging serums. I recommend the Conture Kinetic Toning Device. It has a multitude of benefits with over 250,000 hours of research behind it. With three settings for face, neck, and delicate areas, the device combines Isometric compression and low frequency vibrations. The device also prepares the skin for up to 300% more absorption of active ingredients up to 45 minutes after use.

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum $166

This serum is a tried-and-true favorite of both mine and the experts. This antioxidant combo reduces fine lines and wrinkles, neutralizes free radical and reverses environmental aging. It’s a multifunctioning product that will improve texture and appearance. I consider CE Ferulic one of — if not the gold standard for topical antioxidants. It is backed by copious clinical studies and is greatly effective in fighting free radical damage.

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum $162

I highly recommend this daily serum. Serums containing ceramides, like this one from Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage line, help strengthen skin cells to keep up the repairing and renewing possible when skin is protected. This serum relies on something called advanced Idebenone technology, which tops the list of powerful antioxidants for the most protection and repair of your skin.

Supergoop! SPF 30 Anti-Aging City Sunscreen Serum $42

While we love having all of these corrective anti-aging serums at our fingertips, the ultimate secret weapon is sunscreen. Prevention is key to maintaining healthy-looking skin. Sunscreen should start at birth and is the most powerful ‘anti-aging’ product we have when used correctly. I love this anti-aging sunscreen serum from Supergoop! Its lightweight formula blends in easily for daily wear, even under makeup.

The INKEY List Collagen Booster Firming Peptide Serum $11

Peptides are messenger cells that communicate with cells to diminish production of excess pigment or to speed cell turnover. This lightweight serum from The INKEY List does just that while boosting collagen production and firming up the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a game-changer for any anti-aging routine thanks to its hydrating properties. SkinMedica HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator has a gel-like consistency and five different types of hyaluronic acids. The Time Release HA, a SkinMedica proprietary ingredient for sustained release of HA works perfectly for hydration throughout the day.
