New year, new products.
With new makeup dropping at dizzying daily rates, I’ve decided to make sorting through the selection of the latest liners, lipsticks, and the like easier for you. I’m so eagerly to pore over every new launch and emerging brand to find the standouts in the bright, shimmery selections each month. Although I’m partial to your particular faves, my heart rates spike with every exciting makeup release. Who knows, maybe there will be some newfangled primer that actually works for your finicky skin types or an innovative mascara that truly checks off every box of our lash criteria.
With each launch, seeing what innovations beauty brands come up with to improve a formula or design is always thrilling. One could easily say that makeup is the one thing exempt from the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra. That’s the exciting part of the ever-expanding market: finding new makeup treasures to help you present your best, truest selves to the world — no matter how colorful or minimalist your go-to looks may be.
Just as I do with hair and skin care, I’ll list the new makeup dropping in January that I recommend adding to your cart. You can also check out last month’s launches that I’m still loving.
Bite Beauty Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation $40 Bite Beauty has perfected the art of lipstick, and now it’s moving into complexion territory. Changemaker Superchared Micellar Foundation, the brand’s first-ever foundation, combines nourishing antioxidants from berry extracts and light-reflecting mica for weighless coverage with a subtle glow.
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Instant Eye Shadow Palette $75 This rosy palette from Charlotte Tilbury made a sneaky debut at this month’s Golden Globe Awards on Salma Hayek and Busy Philipps. If you want to recreate their shimmering looks home, don’t hesitate — the Pillow Talk Instant Eye Shadow Palette is limited edition.
Hourglass Confession Refillable Lipstick $36 Hourglass’s Best of Beauty-winning Confession Refillable Lipstick just got eight new additions to its shade roster in neutral, pink, and red hues. This terra cotta nude called You Make Me is the signature shade of the brand’s first official ambassador, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Milani Screen Queen Foundation $14 Milani’s latest foundation, Screen Queen, evens out skin tone with a lightweight finish and medium coverage while its Nastursium Flower extract helps to soothe inflammation and strengthen the skin barrier.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Lip Gloss $27 This glassy and slightly sheer range of new lip glosses perform and feel much more like a lip balm. Crushed Oil-Infused Lip Gloss nourishes lips throughout the day with hydrating hyaluronic acid and reparative vitamin E.
Fenty Beauty Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner Pencil $22 Fenty Beauty cooked up not just one but two staple eye products for launch this month. The first, Flypencil, is a smudge-proof eyeliner pencil in matte, glitter, shimmer, and metallic finishes. The brand truly doesn’t lie when it calls this formula “longwear,” so be sure to have a oil-based cleanser on hand to remove it.
Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara $24 The second of Fenty’s new staple eye duo is Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara. Because Rihanna doesn’t ever make things without her own twist, she and her brand developed the “flat to fat” applicator brush, which has a different type of bristles on either side — mascara has never been so customizable.
CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation $12 CoverGirl’s latest collection, Clean Fresh, is lightweight and dewy new range of complexion products, including Skin Milk, a sheer foundation that feels just like a moisturizer, thanks to its hydrating aloe vera and coconut milk.
Estée Lauder Act IV by Danielle Lauder Lip Duet Tint & Balm $50 This Lip Duet balm/tint combination is part of Act IV, a makeup collection curated by Danielle Lauder, the great-granddaughter of Estée Lauder. Held together in a magnetic marble case, the balm nourishes lips in preparation for a gel-like lip tint in a sheer, berry shade.
Maybelline New York Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush $8 Maybelline has at last introduced an affordable gel-cream blush to the drugstore aisle with Cheek Heat, a sheer liquid formula that comes in six pink and neutral hues. Build it up with a fluffy blush brush or blend a few dots out with your fingers for a natural-looking flush.
Origins Pretty In Bloom Flower-Infused Long-Wear Foundation $38 If the nourishing honey nectars from wildflower and lavender flowers weren’t enough for Origin’s latest Pretty In Bloom Foundation, it also provides the added bonus of SPF 20 (and yes, you do need SPF in the wintertime). Its satin finish and buildable coverage lets you keep your glass-skin glow until the warm weather returns.
Candy Coat Candy Stix Nail Polish $8 Though all 20 shades of these Candy Stix nail polishes from U.K.-based brand Candy Coat contain a gel formula that requires a curing lamp, they’re still far easier to use than your average nail polish brush and bottle. If you don’t own a lamp, though, make a note to buy the non-gel formula when it drops later this month.
Milani Eye Shadow Duo $6 Milani just simplified your eye makeup routine into two simple steps with its new collection of Eye Shadow Duos. Each of the six small compacts contain two complementary shades, one matte and one shimmer, that you can use to highlight your lids and define your crease in a matter of seconds.
Maybelline New York Dream Radiant Hydrating Foundation $13 The all-new Dream Radiant Hydrating Foundation is Maybelline New York’s answer to dry winter skin. This buildable, medium-coverage formula boasts two staple skin-care ingredients: collagen and hyaluronic acid.
Stila Shine Fever Lip Vinyl $24 Stila technically dropped its high-octane Lip Fever Lip Vinyls in December, but come January 5 you can catch the entire 14-shade range of shiny, high-pigment liquid lipsticks in stores and online at Ulta.
Urban Decay All Nighter Face Primer Longwear Foundation Grip $36 Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray has always been a staple for beauty editors, influencers, and everyday shoppers alike, so it’s about time the brand translated its staying power into All Nighter Face Primer Longwear Foundation Grip. This gel-like formula dries down to a sticky finish that holds on tight to all your other makeup.
Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer $34 Hourglass is adding another member to its wide array of beloved complexion products with the new Vanish Airbrush Concealer. It’s lighter weight than the brand’s Hidden Corrective Concealer but has the same effortless coverage and crease-free finish.
L’Oréal Paris Bambi Mascara $10 Bambi Mascara is already a hit among fans, and later this month L’Oréal Paris is expanding its lengthening formula’s range with water-proof versions of its two darkest shades: Black and Blackest Black.
